Mo., China respond much differently to flu case

A University of Missouri graduate student found to have swine flu after traveling to China has generated widely different responses from officials in two countries.

The 30-year-old man has the first confirmed case of swine flu in mainland China, where at least 60 people who had been on an airplane with him have been quarantined and authorities have sent text messages to mobile phones nationwide asking any other fellow passengers to report to the Beijing disease prevention bureau.

The University of Missouri, however, is not advising campus members to take any additional precautions other than basic hygiene, spokesman Christian Basi said. Columbia/Boone …
